Celiac Disease Research
The only known treatment for celiac disease at this time is a gluten-free diet for life.
However, research is under way by the following companies and universities to find pharmaceutical or alternative treatments and a vaccine for celiac disease. Some of them are in human trial:
Alvine Pharmaceuticals, California
Alba Therapeutics, Maryland
VU University Medical Center, Netherlands
Nexpep, Australia
Princess Alexandria Hospital, Australia
The National Institutes of Health has a complete listing of current and completed studies on celiac disease treatments.
North Bay Celiacs serves people with celiac disease and others on a gluten-free diet in the Northern California Counties of Sonoma, Napa and Marin. Provides support groups and runs a Celiac Disease Awareness Campaign to educate doctors, hospitals, restaurants, hotels, wineries, grocery stores and tourist and travel destinations.
