Jennifer Iscol Jennifer Iscol is Director of North Bay Celiacs, which she founded in 2006, after her son was diagnosed with celiac disease at the age of eight. She received the 2010 Champion of Celiac Awareness Award from the Celiac Disease Foundation. Jennifer is a native of the Bay Area and holds an undergraduate Political Economy degree from U.C. Berkeley and a graduate degree in International Relations from Yale University. She worked in foreign and defense policy at nonprofit organizations, in Congress and at the State Department, and then became a cartographer at the National Geographic Society in Washington, D.C. She resides in Sebastopol with her husband, attorney Joshua Katz, their two children, and their dog Snoopy.
Pamela Walton, C.P.A. Pamela Walton is Treasurer of North Bay Celiacs. She was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 2006. She serves as Financial Strategist for Creative Lift, a social media advertising agency in San Francisco. Prior to that she held senior financial administration posts with other advertising and marketing services firms including Grey Advertising, McCann-Erickson, Goodby Silverstein & Partners, and Goldberg Moser O’Neill in San Francisco, Hamilton Partners in Healdsburg, and Lucas Digital Ltd in San Rafael. She has provided accounting and financial administration services to several not-for-profit organizations including the Healdsburg Jazz Festival, in addition to serving as Board Treasurer for St. John’s Unitarian Church in Cincinnati, OH, and The Next Generation Swing Dance Club in San Francisco. Ms. Walton has several years experience in public accounting, is a licensed CPA with accreditation in California and Ohio, and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Ruth Baillie Born in the United Kingdom, Ruth Baillie trained and worked as a research pharmacologist before moving to the United States in 1996. She then completed her masters degree in Health Psychology and trained as a cancer guide. At this time she also become involved in development work for a number of nonprofit organizations in the fields of environment, music, intergrative medicine, and ecology. She lives in Glen Ellen with her husband and their pet parrot, Harold, and makes one-of-a-kind whimsical silver jewelry through her jewelry design company, Birdland Creations.
Amy Burkhart, M.D., R.D. Dr. Burkhart obtained a degree in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics at U.C. Berkeley, where she simultaneously completed her dietetic internship and obtained a Registered Dietitian degree. Dr. Burkhart attended medical school at U.C. Irvine and completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at Highland Hospital, U.C. San Francisco. She worked as an Emergency Medicine physician in Hawaii, and completed a fellowship in Integrative Medicine through Andrew Weil's program at the University of Arizona. Since 2008 she has volunteered for North Bay Celiacs in its Celiac Disease Awareness Campaign, presenting Grand Rounds to physicians, continuing medical education to dietitians, and offering lectures to the community on the diagnosis and treatment of celiac disease. Dr. Burkhart lives in Napa with her husband and their three children.
Molly L. Dillon Molly Dillon is an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Santa Rosa. She serves as counsel for the Santa Rosa Planning Commission, as well as general counsel for the Housing Authority of the City of Santa Rosa. Ms. Dillon served in the U.S. Army, military intelligence branch from 1988 to 1992, during which time she studied Russian at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of California, Riverside, in 1994. Ms. Dillon received her law degree from the UCLA School of Law in 1997. She clerked for Judge Alarcón, with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, before becoming an associate for Arnold & Porter in Los Angeles. Before joining the City of Santa Rosa in January 2006, she was a partner with Clement, Fitzpatrick & Kenworthy in Santa Rosa. Her areas of practice include real property, real estate finance, land use and eminent domain. Ms. Dillon also serves on the Board of Directors for the nonprofit North Bay Regional Center, one of 21 State of California regional centers delivering services to those with developmental disabilities. Molly was diagnosed with celiac disease in March 2007. She resides in Santa Rosa with her husband and two daughters.
Edward J. Flesch Ed Flesch is a retired market research consultant residing in Healdsburg, CA. He has been active with various community organizations, including serving as Vice-Chair of the Healdsburg Jazz Festival, a member of the Healdsburg Senior Citizen Advisory Commission, and as a member of the Board of Trustees of First Unitarian Universalist Society of San Francisco, where he served as Moderator of the Board. In addition, he is President of the Northern California Chapter of the University of Scranton Alumni Society. He is married to North Bay Celiacs Treasurer Pamela Walton.
Helen Manber, M.D. Dr. Manber practices general and cosmetic dermatology in private practice, and also serves as Assistant Professor of Dermatology at University of California, San Francisco, and on the staff at California Pacific Medical Center. She also serves as a consultant in industry. Dr. Manber has received many awards for patient care, including recently the 'Best Dermatologist in the Bay Area' by S.F. Baylist/ S.F. Chronicle. Dr. Manber completed her residencies at Stanford Hospital and Harvard's Deaconess Hospital, respectively, in Dermatology and Internal Medicine. She is a graduate of Dartmouth Medical School. Prior to her medical training, she received her BS in Chemical Engineering from University of California, Berkeley, and was a Kodak Scholar there. Dr. Manber is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, member of the San Francisco Dermatologic Society, the S.F. Medical Society, and the California Medical Association. In her community, she is passionate about teaching elementary school students about sun protection. Additionally, Dr. Manber has a strong interest in music and languages.
Pauline Mysliwiec, M.D., M.P.H. Dr. Mysliwiec is a board-certified gastroenterologist currently practicing at the Kaiser Permanente Vallejo Medical Center. She is certified in adult and pediatric celiac diagnosis and management through the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center's Preceptorship Program. A graduate of the University of The Health Sciences, Chicago Medical School, she completed Internal Medicine training at the University of Illinois Hospital and Clinics in Chicago and fellowships at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO, and the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, MD. Additionally, she holds a Master of Public Health degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. She has co-authored several peer-reviewed publications on topics related to colorectal cancer screening. Since 2007 she has assisted North Bay Celiacs in its Celiac Disease Awareness Campaign, including physician education to Kaiser Permanente physicians, and further donates her time to assist the larger Bay Area celiac community by addressing support groups and supporting fundraising efforts.
Catherine Nelson, Ph.D. A native Californian, Catherine Nelson earned her Bachelor’s degree in Politics at UC Santa Cruz, her Masters degree in Government at Sacramento State University, and her PhD in Political Science at UC Davis. She is a Professor of Political Science at Sonoma State University, and serves on the Sonoma State University Academic Senate and the statewide Academic Senate of the California State University. She was diagnosed with celiac disease in 2006, and has been an active member of North Bay Celiacs since 2007.
North Bay Celiacs was founded in 2006 to provide evidence-based support to those with celiac disease and non-celiac gluten intolerance who live in Sonoma, Napa, Marin, Mendocino, and Solano counties of the greater San Francisco Bay Area. We carry out this mission by heightening awareness; educating the medical community, food purveyors and the general public; and by offering group and individual support.
