Celiac Disease Awareness Campaign

North Bay Celiacs is conducting a comprehensive Celiac Disease Awareness Campaign in the North Bay. Components include:

* Raising awareness among physicians and other medical professionals about recent research in celiac disease by scheduling Grand Rounds on celiac disease at the hospitals, and hosting other continuing education presentations.

* Raising awareness in the general public by participating in health fairs, generating press releases, and participating as a team in the Human Race nonprofit fundraiser.

* Distributing information about celiac disease or providing a free presentation to other segments of the population, including nursing homes, retirement communities, health clubs, teen centers, preschools, school nurses and parenting clubs.

* Providing free information and practical assistance to grocery stores, restaurants, hotels, B&Bs, and wineries who wish to serve the local gluten-free community and visitors on a gluten-free diet.

* Maintaining this website.

Awareness Campaign Event Schedule

May 12th, 2007 – Participated in the Sonoma County Human Race to raise money for the Celiac Disease Awareness Campaign, and distributed literature and gluten-free product samples.

May 19th, 2007 - Participated in the Sebastopol Spring Wellness Fair.

June 5th, 2007 - Advanced Celiac Update and gluten-free tasting for the Redwood Emppire Dietitians Group at Memorial Hospital in Santa Rosa. Co-presented by Kaiser pediatric dietitian Gail Prosser and North Bay Celiacs leader Jennifer Iscol.

June 13th, 2007 - Pauline Mysliewic, MD, MPH, presented a Celiac Update for Grand Rounds at Kaiser in Napa. North Bay Celiacs provided a gluten-free tasting and information packets for the physicians.

July 21st, 2007 - North Bay Celiacs had a table at "A New You" wellness expo at the Flamingo Hotel to distribute literature and provide gluten-free samples to taste.

July 23rd, 2007- Pauline Mysliewic, MD, MPH, presented a Celiac Update for Grand Rounds at Kaiser in Vallejo.

Scheduled for 2008 :

February 13th, 2008 - Advanced Celiac Update and gluten-free tasting for Napa County dietitians. Co-presented by Emergency Medicine physician Amy Burkhart and North Bay Celiacs leader Jennifer Iscol.

Free Resources Available

Free information and resources about celiac disease and the gluten-free diet are available to individuals, businesses, government offices and organizations. Please indicate your profession (physician, food retail, tourism, etc.) so we can work with you to tailor the information to your needs. We are available for free consultation by phone and email, and can also schedule site visits and presentations.

North Bay Celiacs serves people with celiac disease and others on a gluten-free diet in the Northern California Counties of Sonoma, Napa and Marin. Provides support groups and runs a Celiac Disease Awareness Campaign to educate doctors, hospitals, restaurants, hotels, wineries, grocery stores and tourist and travel destinations.
