Celiac Sprue Research Foundation transfers to community under new leadership and name. A newly formed board of directors will head the Celiac Sprue Research Foundation following its recent transfer to new leadership in the celiac community. Renamed as the Celiac Community Foundation of Northern California, the nonprofit will continue to administer Camp Celiac in partnership with The Taylor Family Foundation. It will also advocate on behalf of the regional celiac disease and gluten intolerance community by offering resources, promoting awareness among the general public and medical practitioners, and supporting medical research. North Bay Celiacs is delighted to welcome a new leader for Solano County Celiacs Kathy Dillon will be taking the baton from Crystal Brown, though Crystal will stay on with website and marketing support. Nutritionist Seeking Gluten-Free Housing on the Peninsula A single, mid-40s, non-smoking, female nutritionist skilled in the gluten-free diet, food intolerances and gastrointestinal diseases is seeking housing with a gluten-free kitchen on the Peninsula, starting in March or April. $1000-1500/month. Willing to provide professional gluten-free nutritional services (cooking classes, cooking, nutrition/wellness instruction) in exchange for partial rent reduction. A huge thanks, and a plate of gluten-free cheesecake brownies, to our Sonoma County newspaper, the Press Democrat, for running an article about celiac disease and gluten intolerance on January 22nd and highlighting the work of North Bay Celiacs. Special thanks to Jennifer Torrey (member and local cooking and baking instructor – see her classes under North Bay below) for referring the Press Democrat to North Bay Celiacs for the article, and to all the local businesses that serve our gluten-free community. Gluten in medicine - Help support research by taking a survey The National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA), partnering with St. John's University College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions, is conducting the first-of-its-kind research study on gluten in medications, funded by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). NFCA urges all people who are following a gluten-free diet to participate. Participants will be asked about their experiences taking medicine, and if they think they might have had a gluten-related reaction to an over-the-counter or prescription medicine. To participate in this survey, please go to www.CeliacCentral.org/Survey The survey takes between 4-15 minutes to complete. It closes on February 28, 2012.

Local company Feel Good Foods bringing gluten-free Asian appetizers to many area markets Feel Good Foods offers chef-inspired recipes created with non GMO ingredients, free of MSG, artificial flavors and additives. Feel Good Foods is dedicated to crafting dishes for those on gluten-free diets, and for individuals who are in pursuit of delicious and healthy food. Presently, we offer gluten-free dumplings and egg rolls. We are confident that our customers can happily enjoy Asian appetizers again, without worry. The dumplings will be sampled at two local support groups this month: GIG Marin in Corte Madera on February 6 and North Bay Celiacs in Santa Rosa on February 12. North Bay Celiacs Sonoma County Support Group Our support group meeting on February 12 from 2:00-4:00 PM will feature gluten-free goodies donated by these generous businesses and publishers serving our community.
